Protests in Srinagar over boy's mysterious death

Srinagar, Jul 8: After the Shopian incident and Baramulla violence, Jammu and Kahsmir sees protests again- this time over a mysterious death of a boy.

The Srinagar region saw protests and public anger on Wednesday, Jul 8 over the mysterious death of a boy whose body was found in Rainwari area. According to media reports, the dead boy was a college student.As police and the protesters clash, 4 people have been injured. There are reports that a Police van set was set fire and the police have been forced to use Teargas shells in Lal Chowk area to contain the violence.

It was only a few days ago, that the region of Baramulla saw violent protests after a woman alleged that the police misbehaved with her. Before this, the incident of Shopian Double Murder had caused wide spread protests as two women were raped and murdered by army personnel.

Shia mourners wounded, arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 28: Dozens of Shia mourners were wounded as police resorted to baton-charge and lobbed teargas shells to prevent them from taking out a procession on the eighth Muharram here today.Scores of mourners, including JKLF leader Javed Ahmed Mir, were arrested by police here for violating the prohibitory orders.The Jammu and Kashmir government has imposed a ban on Muharram processions in Srinagar city after militancy erupted in the Kashmir valley in 1989.Former moderate Hurriyat.....
