Mysore, Jul 4: Following the communal violence in Mysore triggered off by the alleged desecration of a madrassa; a Hindu group called for bandh in Mysore. The bandh that was primarily aimed at protesting the death of a BJP youth wing leader received mixed response.
Some shops opened and started off their business while some remained shut. The same went for the transport services too. While the auto rickshaws adhered to the bandh, city transport services were functioning.
The communal violence was sparked off in Udayagiri and spread to adjoining areas on Thursday, Jun 2 following which the district administration imposed curfew in 3 parts of the city under Section 144.
The situation on Friday, Jul 3 was described as an 'uneasy calm' as people expected more violence. However, the situation seems to have cooled down now and the security forces deployed in the troubled areas are on high alert. Night curfew has been imposed till Jul 8.
