Union Cabinet clears Right to Education Bill

New Delhi, Jun 3: The Union Cabinet on Thursday, Jun 2, cleared the long awaited Right to Free Education bill. The bill reserves 25 pc of seats for the under privileged students.

According to the bill, the state shall provide free and compulsory education to all the children of the age of 6 to 14 years. The government also plans to present the bill in the month-long budget session of the parliament.

"The bill was approved by the previous government, (and) was put up before the new cabinet today and was okayed," an official told the news agencies.

New Delhi, Jul 6: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that a sub-committee of State level Bankers Committee (SLBC) would identify and formulate an action plan for providing banking facilities in under-banked/unbanked areas in the next three years.Presenting the budget 2009-10 in Lok Sabha today, Mukherjee said, "A sum of Rs. 100 crore has been set aside as one-time grant in aid to ensure provision of at least one Centre/Point of Sales (POS) for banking services in each of the unbanked.....
