Fake notes not printed in small press: ATS chief

Mumbai, July 3 (ANI): The good quality of the recently seized fake 1000-rupee notes rule out the possibility that they were made in small private press, a senior police official has said.

"The quality of the notes was very good and they could not be made in a normal press which smaller groups of counterfeiters use," said K P Raghuvanshi, Additional Director General of Police (Anti-Terrorism Squad).

The ATS chief even hinted at the possibility of a larger state-owned press in a neighbouring country, which might be manufacturing the fake currency notes, and then sending it here through smugglers.

On May 14, the ATS officials had arrested four persons with fake currency with a face value of four lakh rupees.

The ATS is surprised by the precision that had gone into the fake notes including the signature of a recent RBI governor.

"Normally the signature of the governor is that of one who had left some time back, but in this case they had the signature of the most recent governor. The details on the notes also very closely matched those on the original," an ATS official said. (ANI)
