Noted artist Tyeb Mehta passes away

Mumbai, July 2 (ANI): Noted artist Tyeb Mehta passed away at his residence here on Thursday morning.

Mehta was suffering from a heart ailment.

The 83-year-old artist holds the record for the highest price an Indian painting has ever sold in a public auction for 'Celebration' at Christie's in 2002.

Born in Kapadvanj, a town in Gujarat, Mehta is survived by his wife Sakhina, a son and a daughter.

In May 2005, his painting 'Kali' sold for 10 million Indian rupees at Indian auction house Saffronart's online auction.

In December 2005, Mehta's painting 'Gesture' was sold for 31 million Indian rupees to Ranjit Malkani, chairman of Kuomi Travel, at the Osian's auction.

This makes it the highest price paid by an Indian for Indian contemporary art at an auction in India.

He received Padma Bhushan award in 2007. (ANI)

Machilipatnam,Aug 14: The Potti Sriramulu Telugu University will organise a five-day long all India Kuchipudi Dance Festival during the last week of December, at Kalapeetam, about 25 KMs from here.The Executive Council member Y K D Prasada Rao and Principal of the Kalapeetham, Dr V Ramalinga Sastry told UNI the other classical Indian dance forums, including Odissi, Kathak, Kathakali, Manipuri and Bharatanatyam would also be part of the festival. Kozhikode, Aug 21: In an attempt to gain entry into Guinness Book of World Records (GBWR), and Kaju-Kado Karate and Martial Arts Academy Chief Controller Renshi M Dileep Kumar has set a new record by smashing 6025 tiles.He took only 45 minutes and 44 seconds to achieve this feat at a demonstration witnessed by hundreds of people, including distiguished personalities and representatives from various media organisations from Irelanad, Sweden and Australia here last evening.Dileep, also a personal security officer.....

Italian artist uses chewed bubblegums to create life-size sculptures!

London, Jan 16 (ANI): Italian artist Maurizio Savini has created a series of life-size sculptures including a buffalo and a bear - using chewed bubble gums.Savini, based in Rome, created sculptures using thousands of pieces of the bright pink gum, and have sold for as much as 40,000 pounds each.They include a life-size buffalo, a grizzly bear and suited businessmen suspended in gymnastic poses.The 39-year-old has been using the unusual material, known in his native Italy.....
