UN begins inquiry into Bhutto assassination

Islamabad, Jul 1: A UN spokesman said that a UN commission has been appointed to investigate the assassination of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto which started off on Wednesday, Jul 1.

The Commission is led by the Chilean ambassador to the United Nation, Heraldo Munoz, an Indonesian ex-attorney general and an Irish former police official.

Hiro Ueki, a UN spokesman in Pakistan said, "The six-month mandate of the Benazir Bhutto commission of inquiry has begun today. The commission is expected to visit Pakistan but the dates are not determined yet."

The UN spokesman also said that the commission will inquire into the facts and circumstances of the assassination and it has made it clear with Pakistan to determine 'the criminal responsibility of the perpetrators.'
