UK police simulate 'nuclear attack' exercise

London, July 1 (ANI): More than 1,000 cops, paramedics and firefighters were involved in treating "radioactive casualties".

According to The Sun, emergency services worked on the scenario that terrorists had set off a radiological device at a college near Dover Castle.

More than 100 actors, some covered in fake blood and pretending to be maimed, were ferried on stretchers to the Maidstone and William Harvey hospitals in Ashford, Kent.

The exercise last weekend tested Britain's response to a terror attack.

The Home Office, Kent and Essex Police and the Department of Health coordinated it.he national exercise - codenamed "Saxon Shore" - took over 12 months to plan.

Emergency services have a legal responsibility under the Civil Contingencies Act to test procedures on a regular basis.

Police said the exercise had no impact on everyday policing operations as all those involved would not have normally been on duty. (ANI)
