New Delhi, Jun 29: The Supreme Court of India took a tough stance against the inaction of the Centre over the continual reports of attacks on Indian Students in Australia and other countries.
"We should not push the problem under the carpet," the Supreme Court said on Monday, Jun 29.
Pointing out that the safety of the Indian Students abroad is an important issue, the Supreme Court has directed the government to take more stringent measure to ensure the same. The government is expected to file an affidavit within the period of two weeks.
On Jun 22, the Supreme court asked the centre to file an affidavit before it on the steps being taken by the government to ensure the safety of its students who are studying abroad. This move came as a response to public interest petition filed by advocate DK Garg.
In the span of little over a month, India has seen reports of its students being brutally assaulted in countries like Australia, Canada and United States. This has led to the unrest in the country and abroad regarding racism and safety of students.
