9 more swine flu cases in India, total 89

New Delhi: A health official said that at least 9 more cases have confirmed positive for the deadly swine flu virus on Saturday, Jun 27. The total number of cases detected with the influenza A (H1N1) virus in the country has risen to 89. Four each from Bangalore and New Delhi and one from Punjab.

The health ministry said, "At least 645 people have been tested so far of which 89 were positive for Influenza A (H1N1). Of the 89, 59 have been discharged. Rest of them remain admitted to the identified health facility. The situation is being monitored."

He also said, "A family of four - a man, woman and two children - who travelled from Newark, the US, via Germany reached Bangalore on Friday Jun 26 by a Lufthansa flight and were quarantined at the airport. They were shifted to the identified health facility and all of them have tested positive."

"The case from Gurdaspur in Punjab is an indigenous case, a contact of positive case reported on Monday Jun 22," he added.

The four cases reported from Delhi include a nine-year-old child who travelled from Seattle, US via Seoul reaching Delhi on Thursday, Jun 25. The other three cases had come from the US on Monday, Jun 22.
