Nepal Maoist-UML meeting on House stalemate inconclusive

Kathmandu, June 27 (ANI): Leaders of the main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) and the ruling CPN (UML) met in a bid to reach an understanding to break the deadlock in parliament, but they could not arrive at any conclusion.

Nepanews quoted senior Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha as, saying that his party was ready to allow the House to resume its normal business if the government maintained liberal approach towards the demands it has raised.

The Maoist party has been obstructing the regular proceedings of the parliament ever since the new government was formed in protest against the President's move to reinstate Army Chief Rookmangud Katawal.

However, UML leader Bhim Acharya claimed that they were very close to reaching an understanding on resuming the House.

Earlier this week, top leaders of the Unified-Maoist, the Nepali Congress and the UML had held bilateral and multilateral discussions on the issue, but failed to come to an agreement.

Meanwhile, Maoist Chairman Prachanda has claimed that conspiracies are being hatched not to let the new Constitution writing completed by derailing the peace process.

Addressing a programme here, Prachanda said," conspiracies are being hatched to restore the "feudal monarchy" in the country in one way or the other, and went on the claim that attempts are being made to a frame the Maoists."e charged that the plots to dissolve the Constituent Assembly are being concocted.

Saying that the conspiracy was not against him but against the thousands of indigenous and Janajati people, and the ones who are fighting for the federalism, Prachanda urged all to be ready to fight against it. (ANI)

Nepal Constituent Assembly urges parties to form committees

Kathmandu, Dec 8 (ANI): The Constituent Assembly Secretariat (CAS) of Nepal has asked the parties represented in the Constituent Assembly (CA) to constitute committees soon according to the CA regulations.The CAS here on Sunday formally told the parties that no step has been taken to form the committees even after a month of publicising the 82-week long schedule for the new constitution-drafting and thus affecting the constitution making process.The meeting of the work management advisory committee chaired by Constituent.....
