Maya hurriedly unveils statues ahead of SC hearing

Mayawati
Lucknow, Jun 26: BSP supremo, Mayawati hurriedly unveiled about 60 statues including 6 of her own eight days ahead of schedule on Thursday, Jun 25. This has drawn attention in the backdrop of the PIL that has been filed in the Supreme Court of India against the Mayawati government for misuse of funds.

According to media reports, officials have admitted that the unveiling ceremony was scheduled to take place on Jul 3 and Mayawati pre-poned the ceremony as a Supreme Court advocate Ravi Kant along with another lawyer along with Sukumar filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the apex court.

"Ravi Kant yesterday moved an application for urgent hearing pleading that Mayawati should not be allowed to unveil the various projects. As the hearing was to take place Jun 29, the chief minister inaugurated the projects today," an anonymous official was quoted as saying.

A news agency report claims that Ravi Kant himself had confirmed that "she (Mayawati) hurriedly inaugurated some of her pet projects as she apprehended that the judiciary may not approve them."

At the ceremony, the Mayawati did not explain the reason behind the change in schedule but only blamed her opponents for launching a 'vicious campaign' against her.

"They accuse me of misusing public money for constructing parks, museums, and memorials dedicated to Dalits," she added.
