Indo-Pak bilateral ties under stress: Krishna

Trieste, Jun 26: SM Krishna, external affairs minister on Friday Jun 26 met Shah Mehmood Quershi, Pakistani counterpart on the G-8 foreign ministers meeting and conveyed that due to terrorism Indo-Pak bilateral ties were under 'considerable stress'.

"These(relations) have remained under considerable stress and the primary cause of this is the terrorist attacks on India, by elements based in Pakistan," Krishna told reporters.

Krishna said, "I conveyed the sentiments of our Prime Minister that we stand ready to meet Pakistan more than half way to utilise and harness that potential for our mutual benefit. At the same time, we have to address centrally why our relations come under stress recurrently."

He also said to Quershi, "forthcoming meeting of foreign secretaries, as was decided by our leaders in Russia, is important as it will enable us to take stock of where we stand on the issue of terrorism and the fulfilment by Pakistan of its assurance that its territory would not be used for terrorist attacks on India."

Bangalore, Apr 5: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader S M Krishna today welcomed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunananidhi's decision to defer the implementation of controversial Hogenakal project and urged the agitators in Karnataka to end their stir. Speaking to newspersons here he said the statement made by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister reflected his statesmanship and it was welcome that the he had decided to deferred the implementation of the project until a popular government was established.....
