Dalits to get quota in work contracts: Mayawati

Lucknow, Jun 26: Chief minister Mayawati in a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Jun 25 announced special benefits for the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs). This was an attempt to consolidate her Dalit and tribal vote bank.

Mayawati said to reporters that 21pc work contracts would be reserved for SCs and 2pc for STs. They would be eligible to apply for all tenders floated by any government/semi-government/public undertaking/development authority and any other establishment under the state government.

She said that the law would make it compulsory for all departmental heads to announce for SCs and STs. "Anyone found flouting the government order would be punished severely," she added

Mayawati also said that she has prepared a roadmap to give a face lift to Ambedkar villages. However, there are no new villages would be added under the Ambedkar scheme as she was not happy with the quality of work done in these villages.

Maya to reopen closed cases; Lawyers condemn

Now SC-STs will form companies. Win contracts and outsource it to the same old companies which had to win before your idiotic quota was introduced. Is that easy to start an infrastructure company? There is something called experience and merit

There is also something called justice which will reap far greater rewards in the long run than your 'experience and merit'. Chief minister Mayawati should be praised for what she is doing. She has done a noble thing.

Its about time that someone did something for the cause of Dalits. The upper castes have had it too good for too long.
