Sibal to act on Yashpal panel recommendations soon

Govt may do away with UGC, AICTE

New Delhi, Jun 25: The HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal who has been put on introducing reforms in the higher education system has welcomed that Yaspal Committee report calling the recommendations 'serious'. Sibal on Wednesday, Jun 24 promised that the ministry will try to implement these recommendations be in 100 days.

Sibal said the recommendations of the committee would be 'pivotal to the reforms in higher education'. Now, all eyes are on the ministry"s 100-day roadmap which is expected to be unveiled on Thursday, Jun 25.

When asked about the resistance he may face from other ministries like Health and Agriculture which have eductational institutions under them, he said, “We will take everyone on board."

As per the TOI report, the recommendations of the Yashpal Committee includes reforms such as doing away with boards like UGC and AICTE and bringing in an apex body called National Commission for Higher Education and Research.
