AF crash: Victims' families to get compensation

Investigations carry on in the crash site of AF 447
London, Jun 22: Even as the mystery of the Air France Flight 447 crash awaits to be deciphered, Air France has vowed to pay an initial compensation of 24,500 dollars to the families of the victims.

Paul-Henri Gourgeon, chief executive of Air France has revealed that apart from the cash compensation, the company is also providing counseling for the grieving families. Air France has been in touch with about 1,800 relatives of the people who lost their lives in the crash, he added.

"Of course, this is not always easy, (but) we make up for it," he said.

The company has appointed psychologists in each country and each stop. The flight was carrying passengers of about 32 nationalities. Gourgeon said that managing this kind of a loss was of great complexity. Adding that they were confident on handling his, he said, "It's just a question of means and no limits on the means that we put in place."

Perec gives media the slip in France
