Meerut placed under curfew following violent clashes

Meerut (UP), June 17 (ANI): Curfew was imposed in some areas of Meerut after clashes Tuesday night between two groups over the blocking of traffic at a busy intersection.

At least 24 people and an equal number of policemen were injured in the violence.

Protesters also damaged vehicles.

Incidents of arson were also reported late Tuesday night. Three companies of Rapid Action Force have been deployed in the city.

The police had to lob tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. (ANI)

Meerut, May 19: At least eight convicts were injured in a clash between two groups in the Chaudhury Charan Singh jail here. The District administration claimed that the situation was now fully under control. Three convicts have been admitted to hospital. Additional District Magistrate Manvendra Singh said a argument broke out between prisoners of Baghpat district who were being taken for court appearances, on some issue. According to him, a clash occured between inmates.....

Criminal shot dead in police encounter

Bulandshahr, Aug 15: A criminal was shot dead in police encounter at Meerut highway, about 12 km from here, this morning. Senior Superintendent of Police Sujeet Pandey told the sources '' four criminals, who were aboard a looted truck, were intercepted in Gulabathi area.'' While, one of them was shot dead in police firing, other three managed to escape. The quartet were coming on the looted truck from Muzaffarnagar. UNI.....

70 BKU workers held in Pilibhit

Pilibhit, Nov 18: As many as 70 Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) workers, including the district union president, have been arrested from railway station here, police said today. They said, the BKU workers were on way to Meerut to participate in a farmers panchayat being held today to protest the closure of sugar mills and arrest of BKU president Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tiket. On November 12, the BKU president was sent to jail in a case. Fifty union workers were also nabbed.....
