Indian students are safe in Queensland

Brisbane (Australia), June 17 (ANI): The Indian Australian community in Queensland, Australia, has told a round table forum here that all Indian students residing the state and other southern states are safe from racist violence.

"Nothing has come to my notice of an untoward nature so far. Nothing of a disturbing nature has come to my ears yet," The Age quoted Professor Singh, as saying.

Professor Singh and other leaders met with parliamentary Speaker John Mickel, Minister for Communities Annastacia Palaszczuk, Education Minister Geoff Wilson and police in a round table forum to discuss any problems within the community generally and in particular with the 12,000 Indian students studying and working in Queensland.

"Queensland appears to be in a happy state of development. We do not appear to have that ugliness coming to the fore that concerns us around the country, and I hope it stays that way," Professor Singh said.

Assistant Commissioner Ian Stewart said the police service was not aware of any racial attacks on Indians. (ANI)
