Fiat India launches 'Grande Punto'

New Delhi, Jun 17: Fiat, the Italian car major launched its much-awaited small car Grande Punto in both petrol and diesel variants in the Indian market. It is priced between Rs 3.99 lakh and Rs 6.11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Rajeev Kapoor, the Chief Executive Officer, Fiat India Automobiles Ltd said, "The launch of Grande Punto marks a new milestone for Fiat in India as we bring the quintessentially Italian designs to Indian shores." He added that the company believes that the small-car segment is under-tapped and customers are increasingly looking forward to international brands on Indian roads.

Grande Punto, was launched in the European market in 2005. It would be rolled out from the FIAT's Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra in four variants each in both petrol (1.2 litre an 1.4 litre) and diesel modes (1.3 litre). The petrol variants would cost Rs 3.99-5.61 lakh, while the diesel cars would be offered at Rs 4.85-6.11 lakh. Grande Punto would be retailed through the Tata-Fiat dealers network across India.

Bird flu spreads to new areas in Assam

Kamrup (Assam), Dec 6: With a fresh outbreak of bird flu in poultry being detected in Assam, authorities are prepared to start the culling of thousands of chickens.Reports say the virus has spread to the districts of Barpeta and Nalbari from Hajo in Kamrup District, where it was first reported. Samples were sent to laboratories in Bhopal and have tested positive for H5N1 avian influenza.The State Government has ordered culling operations and culling officers have already started going.....
