Australia's aboriginals now facing racial taunts

Perth (Australia), June 17 (ANI): It was bad enough that Indian students were being racially abused, but reports have now surfaced that racial taunts have also been directed at aboriginal students in the town of Narrogin in Western Australia's south-east.

According to news.com.au, 25 children have been asked by their parents to stay at home because of what they claim are racial slurs against indigenous students.

Sergeant Roy George, of Narrogin police, said police were called to Narrogin Senior High School yesterday where a large mob had gathered to watch three students fighting.

Priscilla Kickett, from the Narrogin Aboriginal Community Reference Group, said indigenous students were being taunted with racial slurs and ignored by their teachers when they reported it.

"When they retaliate, they get suspended," she added.

Sergeant George said the children involved in the fight had been taken to the principal's office and dealt with by the principal, in accordance with education department policy.

He said the incident was not as sinister as it was portrayed. (ANI)
