Guilty in Shopian Case will be punished: PC

Srinagar, Jun 13: Following the confirmation from the forensic reports of rape in the Shopian Double Murder case, the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram on Friday, Jun 12 assured that the guilty will be punished.

“It is the intention of state government to hold thorough enquiry both by commission of inquiry and investigating agency. Those found guilty would be punished," he said.

The state government had initiated a probe panel into the double murder case besides investigation by a Special Investigation Team of police.

The bodies of Asiya (17) and her pregnant sister-in-law Nelofer (22) were found on May 30. The state had broke out into protests claiming that the women were rape and killed by Indian soldiers.

Apart from this, the visiting Home Minister also said that he would look into the issue of withdrawal of the Armed Special Forces Powers Act (AFSPA) and that there would be gradual removal of troops from inhabited areas.

Five injured in Kashmir highway accident

Srinagar, Jan 31: Five people were injured in two separate road accidents on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, official sources said today. They said two people were injured, when a car collided head-on with a truck near tool post at Qazigund on the highway. Three others were injured in similar accident at Pampore on the highway.The injured were admitted to hospitals, they added. UNI.....
