Singapore Airlines has a narrow escape in Kolkata

Kolkata, June 11 (ANI): Passengers of a Singapore Airlines plane had a narrow escape when a bowser caught fire seconds before it was to start refuelling the plane at the international airport in Kolkata on Wednesday night.

According to Airport sources, passengers were disembarking via an aerobridge when a truck carrying 14 kilolitres of aviation turbine fuel rolled under one of the plane's wings. It was about to link up with the fuel ports when flames suddenly erupted from the tanker at 10.50 pm.

An Air India personnel detected the fire in the bowser and alerted its driver. ire brigade used foam to control the blaze. The plane and its 268 passengers were safe. A short circuit was suspected to have caused the fire.

The airport fire department would investigate the incident and submit its report to the Airport Authority of India as also the Directorate of Civil Aviation. (ANI)
