Rush for undergraduate courses leads to clashes in Kolkata

Kolkata, June 11 (ANI): Rush for admission forms for undergraduate courses took an ugly turn in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Students belonging to rival political outfits pelted stones at each other in the St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College, leading to police intervention.

The altercations had political overtones as the students were divided into rival political camps, the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Pragatisheel Indira Congress (PIC).

While SFI is the students' wing of West Bengal Communist Party of India (Marxist), the PIC is an ally of the Trinamool Congress.

Police detained students belonging to both the camps.

The clash did not go down well with some students, who said that political parties were trying to fish in the troubled waters.

"Whatever is happening is not right and the government must take steps because whatever small things happen, it takes a political angle. The political parties take advantage of the situation. This is not right and we fully condemn it," said Bikash Gupta, a student. (ANI)
