Microsoft to unveil free anti-virus service Morro

Boston, Jun 11: Software giant Microsoft Corp is planning to unveil, the much anticipated free anti-virus service for personal computers to compete with Symantec Corp and McAfee Inc products.

Microsoft spokesperson said that the firm is testing an early version of the product with its own employees. He added that it would soon launch a trial version, or product data, available via its website. But he refused to provide a specific date of the release.

Experts believe that service, code-named as Morro after the Brazil's Morro de Sao Paolo beach will generate billions of dollars of revenue a year protecting Windows PCs from hackers. Microsoft has said it will provide protection from several types of malicious software including viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans. The world's biggest software maker said that free Morro service would be launched by the end of 2009.
