McCullum's personal glory bids blamed for Kiwi 20-20 losses

London, June 11 (ANI): Acting New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum is being pilloried by commentators for trying to corner all the glory in run chases undertaken by the team in the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup.

"There will be some questions asked in the New Zealand camp about the run chase," uttered commentator David Lloyd after the men in black had five wickets in hand but still ended up one run short chasing South Africa's 129 at Lords.

According to a NZPA report, this is the third time in four months that McCullum has set out on his hero or villain routine and twice he has come a cropper.

The point being made is that it makes no sense to play the defiant lone hand when there have been capable batsmen sitting in the dugout watching him trying to win a game by himself.

It all starts so promisingly, a flurry of boundaries square through the off-side, but when the six-over power play is complete McCullum drops down too many gears and refuses to take risks.

McCullum told reporters after the game that he was about to launch at the bowling when he was stumped. (ANI)
