Kuala Lumpur, Jun 8: In the view of the worsening global aviation crisis, about 500 aviantion industry leaders will meet on Monday, Jun 8 in Malaysia in order to discuss the steps that could be taken by airlines to keep afloat in the current crisis.
The Airline chief will come together at a two-day International Air Transport Association (IATA) annual meeting and will be focusing on the strategies to undo the effects of the current crisis and to prevent further troubles.
IATA revealed that the international air travel came down 3.1 pc for passengers and 21.7 pc for cargo in Apr 2009 compared to Apr 2008 and has predicted that the in May 2009, the numbers are likely to be worse. Hit by economic recession, the airlines are also facing rising prices of jet fuel, which reached a six-month high of 75 dollars a barrel recently.
Even though experts have a positive outlook about the global economic recovery, aviation industry analysts have warned that while the worse may be over for airlines, a recovery is unlikely within the next six months.
