London, June 7 (ANI): Former Australian cricketer Darren Lehmann believes that out-of-favour all-rounder Andrew Symonds still has a future in the game, especially in the Twenty20 format.

Symonds, who plays for the Deccan Chargers, the winners of the second edition of the Indian Premier League that was held in South Africa this year, has been assured he still has a home at Hyderabad.

The Age quoted Lehmann, who is the coach of the Deccan Chargers, as saying: "We have had no problems with him and we are happy for him to play with us."

"We just want to make sure he is happy, healthy and playing good cricket again," added Lehmann, who is also president of the Australian Cricketers Association, which has worked closely with Cricket Australia to help Symonds in his battle with a range of emotional issues including problems with alcohol.

Lehmann described Symonds as well behaved during his recent Indian Premier League stint, where he did not have to contend with the pressures of the international environment.

"I just think he wants to enjoy his time playing cricket; no stress, just enjoying the game of cricket," Lehmann said.

Symonds was sent home from England after breaking his promise not to consume alcohol in public while on team duty.

He is known to be sick of team regulations and is unlikely to accept any new set of conditions imposed on his continuing to play with Queensland if, as expected, his Cricket Australia contract is terminated next week.

Symonds can earn 1.35 million dollars for a full season in the IPL and has witnessed the enjoyment of retired Australians Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden in the tournament.

The Queenslander was a pivotal figure with bat and ball in the Hyderabad franchise's winning team last month, and has a strike rate of 170 runs per 100 balls in Twenty20 cricket. (ANI)
