French Open: Paes, Dlouhy win men's doubles title

Leander Paes, Lukas Dlouhy with French Open trophy
Paris, Jun 7: India's ace shuttler Leander Paes won his ninth Grand Slam title on Saturday, Jun 6. Paes and his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy overcame a first set lapse to tame Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman in the final of the French Open men's doubles in Paris.

South African-Belgian pair was crushed by the third seeded Indo-Czech pair 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to win their first Grand Slam title together. Paes won men's doubles title after almost three years. He last won the 2006 US Open with Martin Damm. Paes had earlier won the French Open in 1999 and 2001 with his estranged compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi.

Thought Paes-Dlouhly pair lost the first set, made a brilliant comeback against Moodie-Norman, who had earlier upset second seeded Americans Mike and Bob Bryan in the semi-finals winning the second and and fourth games

Paes was hit on his eye when left-handed Norman sprayed a high forehand volley straight towards the Indian ace. However that did not hurt Paes much and he returned to court after the ice treatment.
