DMK patriarch Karunanidhi turns 86

Chennai, Jun 3: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi turned 86 on Wednesday, Jun 3. He celebrated his birthday with his family members and visited to the memorials of his mentor, late C N Annadurai and Dravida Kazhagam founder the late E V K Periyar.

Later he met his party members at Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's (DMK) headquarters 'Anna Arivalayam' in Chennai. Karunanidhi birthday, falls at a time when his party has registered a thumping victory in the Lok Sabha polls (2009) bagging 18 out of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu.

DMK supremo recently announced his second son M K Stalin as his deputy there by solving his succession issue. He also ensured a Union cabinet berth for his elder son and first time MP M K Azhagiri. His grand nephew and former Union IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran has been made Union Textile Minister.

India urges Lanka to stop killing Tamils

Chennai, Dec 15: India today clearly told Sri Lanka to stop the killings of innocent Tamils in the island nation and find a political solution through negotations to end the ethnic conflict.Replying to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's December 8 letter, forwarding a copy of the resolution passed in the State Legislative Assembly expressing concern over the prevailing situation in Sri Lanka, AICC President Sonia Gandhi said India had reiterated to Sri Lanka that there was an urgent need.....
