15th Lok Sabha all set to begin operations

New Delhi, Jun 1: The country awaits the first session of the 15th Lok Sabha that is all set to begin on Monday, Jun 1. While the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is all set to rule the country for the second term.

The first session will see 543 newly elected MPs swearing-in which will be carried over two days. On Wednesday, Jun 3 there will be an election for the Lok Sabha speaker which will be followed by President Pratibha Patil's address to a joint session of parliament Thursday, Jun 4.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vowed on Sunday, May 31 to be the 'constructive opposition'. "We will sit in the opposition and play the role of a constructive opposition," said party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.The Congress that won 206 seats this time will likely to project Meira Kumar, the water resources minister in the new government as the Lok Sabha speaker.

The re-elected Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met his full cabinet on Saturday, May 30 to finalise on president's address which will extensively describe the party's agenda for the term. It is expected to focus on his government's moves to strengthen welfare schemes and boost the economy, media reports say.

Price rise to be checked, says Manmohan Singh
