Indian Govt frees Tamiflu from customs duty

New Delhi, May 28: The antiviral drug that is being used to treat Swine Flu or H1N1 Influenza will be exempted from Customs Duty as per government directions. This will allow duty-free import of 1 million capsules of the medicine.

“As part of the effort to create a buffer stock of the drug, Oseltamivir Phosphate, used for the treatment of H1N1 influenza, government has decided that the drug would be imported by Roche India Ltd to supplement the stock manufactured in India," read an official statement

And as per the statement, Roche India Ltd has been allowed to import 1 million capsule of Tamiflu 75 mg.

The government of India on Wednesday, May 27 said that the Tamiflu, a patented drug of Swiss pharmaceutical major Roche, was exempted from the customs duty, in order to build ample stock of the drug in the country. And the Central Board of Excise and Customs has already issued an exemption order for duty free import of the antiviral drug.
