Bangalore, May 26: In an effort to ease the students' burden of attending two entrance exams, the Karnataka State government will carry on its efforts to convince Comed-K to conduct a single Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to professional courses.
Higher education minister Aravind Limbavali on Monday, May 25 said, “Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) is known across the country for its integrity. The state government will request Comed-K officials to co-operate with it to ease the students" burden of writing two entrance examinations for admission to professional courses."
The government is holding talks with the Centre deliberating over the possibility of sharing the CET seats sanctioned for the institutions that are deemed to be universities.
“The Centre"s decision to confer deemed to be university status on JNMC, Devaraj Urs Medical College and other premier medical colleges, has deprived the state government of nearly 240 seats of its quota. The government is trying to do everything possible to ensure justice to state students," Limbavali said.
Common Entrance Test (CET) is held by the state government while the relatively new Comed-K is held by a syndicate of private medical and engineering colleges. The students who aspire to get into medical of engineering courses in the state have to write both the exams.This move will not only reduce the students' burden but also save time on long procedures that go into examinations.
