Puebla, May 23: A moderate earthquake of 5.7 intensity hit central Mexico on Friday, May 22. The temblor caused a scare and sent the people onto the streets but with no casualties or damage has yer been reported.
As per the he US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake hit at 2:24 pm local time at a depth of 56 kilometers (34.8 miles), reports AFP. Its epicenter was found to be 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Puebla, and 150 kilometers (95 miles) southeast of Mexico City, the USGS said.
"There are no reports of major damage at the moment," the capital's Mayor Marcelo Ebrard said.
This is the second moderate quake reported from Mexico in less than a month. It was only on Apr 27 that a 5.6-magnitude quake was reported from the country.
