Lockout at Arkonam tyre plant: MRF

Chennai, May 18: Following a labour unrest in the factory, MRL Ltd on Monday, May 18 announced a lockout at its Arkonam plant in Tamil Nadu.

Since May 9 over 3,000 employees of MRF in Arkonam and Puducherry were on a 'sit-in' strike within the premises of the respective facilities. The workers went on strike as they were not happy with the management as the company denied recognition to it. MRF management also had dismissed about 150 labourers so far.

The Arkonam plant produces 10,500 radial tyres a day, while MRF's Puducherry unit makes 26,000 units of tyre and 42,000 tubes a day.

Pondy: Functioning of OPD affected in JIPMER

Puducherry, May 21: Functioning of the out-patients department in the centrally administered JIPMER hospital was affected for about one-and-a-half hours this morning as the medical records department staff resorted to a strike. Accoridng to JIPMER sources, the registration of out-patients at the hospital was from 0800 hrs to 1030 hrs.
