Tirupati, May 16: The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) chief Chiranjeevi has succeeded in his first election from the Tirupati Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh.

The actor turned politician beat his rival B Karunakar Reddy by a huge margin of 10,500 votes, the official sources said.

However, he is still lagging in Palakollu, the second constituency he is contesting from in his native West Godavari district.

His party, PRP is also in the red in the State Assembly elections with Congress sweeping the lead in the state.

10 persons surrender in Dr Rajasekhar attack case

Hyderabad, Jan 29: At least ten people, who claimed to have attacked Telugu film actor Rajasekhar and his family members yesterday, surrendered before the police today. Chiranjeevi's father dies after brief illness

Hyderabad, Dec 24: Well known Telugu film star Chiranjeevi's father K Venkat Rao died at the actor's residence here last night following brief illness. He was 76. He is survived by three sons and two daughters. Mr Rao had worked in the state Excise department and was a district Superintendent of Police (SP) before his retirement.
