Reds kicked out of red bastion

Kolkata: The biggest story of general elections 2009 is not Manmohan Singh's victory, Its the fall of red bastion of West Bengal.

CPI M lead left front has been ruling West Bengal uninterruptedly for 32 years. This is the LF's worst performance since 1977.

The Trinamool-Congress combine could end up with 26 seats, reducing the Left Front to 15. BJ P's Jaswant Singh won the Darjeeling seat.

In the 2004 elections, the Left Front had finished with a whopping 35 seats, while the Congress and the Trinamool had to be satisfied with six and one respectively.

But this time, the LF could end up losing 20 of the seats it won five years back.

CPI(ML) puts conditions to meet on Nandigram

Kolkata, May 13: The CPI(ML) today put forth a set of conditions to participate in an all-party meet on Nandigram.In a meeting with Forward Bloc chief Ashok Ghosh, CPI(ML) secretary Kartick Ghosh said they would take part in the discussion only if an inquiry was initiated into the killings during the period from January 3 to March 14.Mr Kartick Ghosh said the party also demanded that Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee come clear on the steps adopted by the.....
