Indians are world's greenest consumers

India-Greenery
Washington, May 14: Indians are the 'greenest people' says a global survey result. A survey conducted by the National Geographic Society and international polling firm GlobeScan on environmentally sustainable behaviour portrayed Indian consumers in the top position with a Greenindex score of 59.5.

The Indians are at the top green ladder because they are the most frequent consumers of self-grown food. Indians also topped at the goods sub-index score as they buy maximum number of environmental friendly products rather than the used goods.

The survey says that the Indians retained third rank on the transportation sub-index. Most of them use motorcycles or scooters to reach their destinations which are most likely close by. When compared to Mexicans, Indian consumers stood second to drive a compact car.

When it comes to housing, Indian costumers rank second only to Brazilians. Factors which contribute to their high ranking are that Indians least use a hot running water (38pc) and having home heating of (41 pc), but use solar energy to heat water (15pc).

The survey also pointed out the fact that Indian have contradictory view on environmental issues. While they have faith in the government, industry and new technology to help to solve environmental problems and they lack faith in individuals ability to make a positive impact.
