UP govt to challenge advice revoking Varun's NSA

Varun Gandhi
New Delhi, May 12: The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government is likely to challenge the annulment of Nation Security Act (NSA) slapped on Varun Gandhi for allegedly making 'hate speech' in Pilibhit during election campaign.

The Mayawati government will be approaching the Supreme Court on Tuesday, May 12 to argue against the advisory committee's recommendation revoking the NSA. The government has directed the officers of the state at Delhi to take steps to file special leave petition (SLP) in the apex court. Since the decision of the advisory committee was binding the government chose to go the SLP way. The main argument that the government will be putting forward is questioning the authenticity of the ruling in spite of the evidence provided by the government.

Varun Gandhi, a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mar had delivered an inflammatory speech in his constituency Pilibhit and the state government had lodged the complaint against him over the speech. The advisory board revoking the NSA is perceived to be an embarrassment to the government.
