Taliban claim 90pc of SWAT under their control after capturing Saidu Sharif

Islamabad, May 6 (ANI): Hours after storming into Mingora, the largest city of the Swat Valley, the Taliban has now captured Saidu Sharif, where residences of top district administration officials and offices are based, The Daily Times reports.

According to sources, the Taliban has taken control of the offices of DIG and investigation SP in the region.

The Taliban gunmen could also be seen outside the residence of Malakand commissioner, they added.

The Taliban spokesperson Muslim Khan said that 90 percent of the area of Swat Valley was under their control.

Police officials have claimed that security forces are offering stiff resistance to the extremists amid incidents of sporadic fighting.

"The government forces are resisting Taliban attacks on government buildings and police stations," Swat DCO Khushal Khan said.

An indefinite curfew has been imposed in the region, he informed.

Meanwhile, the ISPR has said that the offensive in Buner region is progressing smoothly, and the security forces have forced scores of extremists out of the region. (ANI)

Big blast at shop in Afghan capital, several killed

Kabul, Mar 14: Four people were killed and eight wounded in a large explosion at an ammunition shop in the heart of the Afghan capital today, officials said.Several shops were destroyed in the explosion.''The blast occured in a shop selling gunpowder and other ammunition for hunting rifles,'' Ali Shah Paktiawal, head of the crime branch of Kabul police, said.Residents had earlier said the blast was caused by a suicide attack on an Afghan army patrol......
