Srinagar police seize five kilograms of explosives

Srinagar, May 6 (ANI): Police seized five kilograms of explosives in Srinagar on Wednesday, a day before citizens of the area cast their votes during the fourth phase of general elctions.

Police sources said the explosives were retrieved from a gas cylinder lodged inside a stationary van on one of the city's streets.

The recovery of the explosives came even as the city observed a shutdown in protest against the holding of polls.

Security forces patrolled streets to prevent untoward incidents ahead of the polls. (ANI)

Srinagar, Dec 7: Polling for 18 constituencies for the fourth phase began on a dull note in Jammu Kashmir due to cold weather on Sunday, Dec 7. Security is beefed-up to ensure smooth polling and in view of the recent militant attacks at Sapore area in Baramulla district in which two people were killed. The fate of 256 candidates will be decided by the voters. Of the 18 constituencies, seven segments are located in Baramulla district, five in Budgam and 3 each.....

JK: Traffic on highway remains suspended for 7th day

Srinagar, Feb 27: Traffic on the 300-long-Srinagar Jammu national highway remained closed for the 7th day today due to landslides and shooting stones, leading to price rise in essential commodities due to shortage in supply. A traffic police official said the highway was reopened last evening after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) partially repaired the damaged portion of the road at Penthal.
