White House not to release Air Force One flyover

Air Force One
New York, May 6: Pictures of an ill-conceived photo-operation, designed to capture one of the president's planes near national landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, will be kept under wraps.

As part of a photo-op carried out by the US Defense Department, a 747 and supersonic jet fighter might have buzzed the Manhattan skyline, and panicked New Yorkers on Apr 27, fearful of a terrorist attack reminiscent of 9/11.

But the White House has decided to take a step to ensure that the operation has never happened.

The photos of Air Force One's low flyover of Manhattan will not be released.

The CBS News quoted an administration official as saying "we have no plans to release them."

The operation, which included an accompanying Air Force jet fighter, cost 328,000 dollars.

Obama was reportedly furious over the incident and ordered an internal review.
