Microsoft
San Francisco, May 6: Almost completing January's plans to sack about 5,000 workers, Microsoft has forwarded layoff notices to more than 3,000 employees along with promising to make more cuts.

Accounting to the first ever mass layoff in its history, the company had already cut 1,400 positions in US alone when it made the announcement in Jan. However, the new batch of sacking was distributed among US and international branches.

Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer on Tuesday, May 5 set e-mails to the employees stating that there would be more cut coming up."As we move forward, we will continue to closely monitor the impact of the economic downturn on the company and if necessary, take further actions on our cost structure including additional job eliminations," Ballmer said in the memo.

Microsoft, however, revealed that it plans to create between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs between now and the middle of next year, which could be filled by the sacked workers.
