Kapil Dev campaigns for Cong's Azharuddin

Mohammad Azharuddin
Moradabad / Mathura (UP), May 6: Former Indian cricket skipper Kapil Dev campaigned for the successful innings of fellow cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin as a politician at Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, May 5.

Kapil Dev along with Azhar's wife Sangeeta Bijlani canvassed for him as the countdown began for the fourth stage of the polls scheduled to be held on Thursday, May 7. "I hope he works hard in politics similar to the manner in which he played cricket. I also wish he does a lot of work for Moradabad. It shouldn't be that he wins from here and doesn't do anything for the city, making us sad. However our duty should be to promote a good person," said Kapil Dev.

Meanwhile, in Mathura, Bollywood actor Emran Hashmi and director Mahesh Bhatt campaigned for the Congress candidate and sitting law-maker Manvinder Singh. Recently Bhatt had campaigned for artiste and social activist Mallika Sarabhai at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The Congress party has roped in a lot of Bollywood stars and adapted numerous innovative ways to woo the electorate as they battle against their main rivals BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

After the fourth phase of polling on May 7, the final stage will be conducted on May 13 while the counting of votes and declaration of results will take place on May 16.
