Ranchi, May 1 (ANI): Officials of Birsa Zoo in Ranchi have made special arrangements to protect the animals from the ever-rising mercury and torrid times ahead.
"We are taking different precautions for different animals to safeguard them from the heat. In nurseries, we are placing dry grass. We are also providing mud for mud loving animals. Besides, we are keeping carnivorous animals indoors from 12:00-3:00 p.m. Efforts are also being made to keep theirs enclosures cool. Air coolers have been placed to keep the animals away from the scorching heat." said Dinesh Kumar, a vetenerian.
Efforts are being made to keep the animal enclosures cool by wetting the walls and providing air coolers.
Some changes have also been made in the daily diet of the animals. Glucose and electrolyte powder is being added in the drinking water of carnivorous animals.
Besides, the animals like elephants, monkeys, bears and dears are being fed water-rich food like cucumber and watermelon.
Summers in India are troublesome when soaring temperatures cause numerous diseases.
Usually the months of May-June are considered to be the peak of summer in the country. However, this year the temperatures have soared beyond 40 degrees Celsius in April itself.
This year, a number of deaths due to heat wave have been reported from Orissa, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. (ANI)
