Jharkhand: Naxal siege ends, passengers freed

Ranchi, Apr 22: The Maoists who hijacked a passenger train in Jharkhand have withdrawn the siege and all the hostages have been released safely.

The Maoist spokesperson reportedly told BBC that they were not intending on causing anyone harm but just wanted to make a symbolic gesture. They further added that the hijack was a retort to the recent incident wherein five villagers were killed by troops.

The rebels have also asked the people to boycott the Lok Sabha Polls. The second phase of polling is scheduled to happen tomorrow in Jharkhand.

The rebels hijacked a passenger train on Wednesday, Apr 22 at 8:30 AM when it was was passing by Jharkhand. They made it halt in a remote town for three hours during which they released the hostages too. They withdrew the siege even before the police or any other security forces could take things into their hands.

Combing operation to continue: IGP

Udupi (Karnataka), July 18: Inspector General of Police (Western Range) A M Prasad today said the combing operations in Malnad and Western Ghats forest area will contnue to contain the increased naxal activities especially during the current month. Mr Prasad who visited Hulugarubailu forest area in Augumbe in Shimoga District, where the exchange of fire took place last night, told UNI over phone that the combing operations were continued in Augumbe and Sringeri forest.....
