Priyanka Gandhi defends Congress' decision to go alone in UP

Amethi, Apr 20 (ANI): Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the daughter of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, on Monday defended the Congress' decision to go alone in Uttar Pradesh in ongoing general elections.

Priyanka termed the decision of the Congress as an opportunity to strengthen the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

"This is a good opportunity for the UPA because we are going alone in elections. I think it's a good opportunity now rather than two years ago," Priyanka said while addressing an election rally here.

Later interacting with mediapersons, Priyanka stated that Congress' tie up with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in 1996 was disastrous.

"The tie up with the BSP in 1996, in which the Congress got only 25 seats in its quota to contest, has led to the party's debacle," she added.

Amethi will go to polls on April 23. (ANI)
