New Delhi, Apr 20: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Monday, Apr 20 successfully launched RISAT-2, an all-weather defence surveillance satellite, radar imaging satellite, along with micro education satellite ANUSAT.
The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C12) flew into the sky from the ISRO's Satish Dhawan space Centre, in Sriharikota at 6:30 AM carrying the 300-kg spy satellite Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT-2) and the 40-kg Micro Satellite ANUSAT.
RISAT is a revolutionary spy satellite that will be use for purposes such as mapping, managing natural disasters and surveying the seas, it can see through camouflage like cloth or foliage which are the popular tools used to conceal camps or vehicles. It will help security forces monitor the tough terrains of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region. ANUSAT was built by the Annamalai University and is the first student-made satellite that will test the technologies related to message store and forward operations.
ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair said, "This is a fantastic New Year gift for the country. We are happy. Performance of the vehicle is precise. There is no deviation to the planned flight path. Both the spacecraft being delivered into the orbit."
He further said that the year will be decked with lot more activities; as ISRO will be launching resourcesat, oceansat and other indigenously developed cryogenic engines.
