Holbrooke warns Pak of 'dangerous situation'

Richard Holbrooke
Washington, Apr 20: The United States' special envoy for Pakistan Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke on Monday, Apr 20 has warned Pakistan of the ' dangerous situation' that it is facing following Taliban's refusal to lay down arms as part of the peace deal in the Swat Valley.

"What happened in Swat is a huge wake up call. That is not in the tribal areas. It is 100 miles from Islamabad... for it to fall under control of such murderous people. Hate philosophy is really extraordinary. We are concerned about it," Holbrooke said.

Recalling the recent development in the valley when the chief spokesman of the Taliban in the Swat area publicly renounced the part of the deal according to which they are supposed to lay down their arms, he said, that these people can not be dealt with by giving away territory as they are coming closer to the populated centers of Punjab and Islamabad.

Holbrooke has told Pakistan 'to go after the economic and social roots of the instability in Pakistan, with more economic aid.' And he has observed that the Western Region of the country is the breeding ground for the terrorists.
