'New beginning' with Cuba possible: Obama

Barack Obama
Port of Spain, Apr 18: US President Barack Obama has expressed the possibility of a 'new beginning with Cuba' on Friday, Apr 17 in the Summit of the Americas happening in Trinidad.

Obama's statement drew applause from the 33 other leaders of the summit. However, he did mention that it was a long journey after the initial steps taken by the United States.

The US-Cuba relations was inimical after the triumph of the revolution led by Fidel Castro in 1959. However, recently Obama eased the embargo against Cuba in the areas of family travel and money transfers to their homeland by Cubans in US, and allowing American telecommunications firms to start providing service for Cubans on Apr 13.

After which former Cuban Leader Fidel Castro on Tuesday, Apr 14 asked Obama why there was no mention of the 'harshest of measure' of the economic blockage. But since Thursday the relations between Cuba and US were warming up.
