Modi promises to resolve payment issue of Pak players in IPL

Karachi, Apr 15 (ANI): Several star Pakistani cricketers threatening to sue the Indian Premier League over a payment row received good news when IPL boss Lalit Modi assured them that he would try to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

According to sources, Modi has sent an email to the management company representing the Pakistani cricketers in which he wrote that the IPL franchises would be approached by the management of the Twenty20 league in a bid to amicably settle the problem.

Sources said that previously the IPL top bosses had decided against even replying to emails and queries sent by the cricketers as well as their management firm, The News reported.

"This is certainly a positive development," said a source close to some of the cricketers, who are still awaiting their payments from various IPL franchises.

"After completely ignoring us for so many days, Lalit Modi has finally acknowledged that there is an issue that needs to be settled," he added.

According to a rough estimate, eight of the Pakistani cricketers who featured in the inaugural IPL season in India last year, are awaiting payments of around four million dollars from their respective teams.

The players include former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi. (ANI)
