Eating 1penny sweet costs shop worker her job

London, April 10 (ANI): Eating a penny sweet being offered free to customers cost a shop worker her job.

Judy Murray, 47, has revealed that she was sacked after CCTV at the discount store TJ Hughes in Crawley, West Sussex, twice captured her munching a treat from a bowl on the counter.

The mother of one had worked at the store for eight years, and was stunned by her suspension.

She revealed that she was later fired, and received a letter accusing her of "theft of company property".

"I felt let down by them - it was a bizarre decision. The sweets were just on the counter for customers to take for free," the Sun quoted her as saying.

Judy is planning to appeal against the decision.

"To be given the sack for eating a penny sweet is just taking things too far. It's not exactly stealing from the till is it?" one of her pals at the store said.

A TJ Hughes spokesman refused to comment on the issue. (ANI)
